Biography

 Minister of Interior of Russian Federation

 

 General of the Army, with a PhD in Economics,  Rashid Gumarovich Nurgaliyev was born in 1956 to a family of militia workers. He finished school in 1974 in the township of Nadvoitsy, Karelia, Russia. The same year he entered Kuusinen State University in Petrozavodsk, and graduated in 1979.

 

In 1979-81 he taught Physics in a Nadvoitsy school.

 

In 1981, he joined the KGB of Karelia, where he passed all the way from an officer of the criminal investigation department of Kalevala Regional Dept. and Kostomuksha Municipal Dept. to the the Head of Medvezhyegorsk Regional Dept. and the Chief of Anti-Terrorist Dept. of the Republic of Karelia.

 

In 1995, Rashid Nurgaliyev served in the Central Office of the Federal Counterespionage Service (FSK), and later in the FSB, as Chief Inspector of Organizational-Inspectorial Office, and as Chief of  Self-Security Dept. In 1998, he took the office of  Chief of the Main Control Office of the President of Russia. In 1999, he headed the Office for Drug Trafficking Control in the Dept of Economic Security. Further on he was Deputy Director and head of inspectorial office of the FSB of Russia.

 

In 2002, Rashid Nurgaliyev was appointed First Deputy Minister of the Interior of Russia.

 

March 9, 2004 he was appointed Minister of the Interior of the Russian Federation.

 

Rashid Nurgaliyev is married and has 2 children. His favorite city is Petrozavodsk.
